Obama’s Campaign Offers Lame Criticisms of McCain’s VP Pick

For anyone who hasn’t heard yet, John McCain has selected Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, as his running mate for the 2008 presidential election. A member of the Obama campaign had this to say regarding his choice:

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” said spokesman Bill Burton.

What does being the former mayor of a town of 9,000 have to do with anything? He’s obviously trying to make it sound like she doesn’t have administrative experience over a large population. But the key word here is former. The part he leaves out is that she is presently the governor of Alaska, a state with a population of between 600,000 and 700,000 people. Nice use of the tactic of irrelevance, Bill. Maybe I shouldn’t call that a tactic though, because I’m pretty sure tactics are supposed to help you while all you did was make yourself sound like a moron.

Then Bill goes on to criticize Palin on her lack of foreign policy experience. He’s apparently forgetting that his own candidate for the presidency has only been in a position to gain foreign policy experience for 3 1/2 years. And since the 110th Congress began on January 4, 2007, Barack Obama has missed 45.5% of votes held in the Senate ( Source -> ) so that kind of takes away from the amount of experience he can claim for himself. And before that he was just a state legislator. So here we have a presidential candidate with no administrative experience and barely any foreign policy experience whose campaign is criticizing a governor for a lack of foreign policy experience. It just seems a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Besides, Slick Willy didn’t have foreign policy experience, but Democrats sure loved that guy!
