CNN Checking the Facts…and Failing

I just saw this disturbing piece of journalism via YouTube, which apparently aired recently on CNN:

It would seem that the “experts” at CNN have determined that the current conflict is Israel’s fault because they broke the ceasefire with Hamas that began on June 19th, 2008. In this clip, “journalist” Rick Sanchez reviews news stories from three periodicals about an Israeli operation beginning on November 4th, 2008, that killed Palestinian militants. This story was also confirmed by CNN’s international desk. Viewers are supposed to take this exercise in “fact checking” as proof positive that Israel did indeed break the ceasefire first.

Evidently all the journalistic skill of CNN is no match for yours truly, a college-age blogger. With my first search on Google and on the first page of matches, I found all the information I needed to disprove their conclusion. First, from a Time article published on December 15th, 2008:

From the beginning of the year until June 19, Israel was struck by 2,660 projectiles fired from Gaza. From June 19, when the tahdiya went into effect, to Nov. 4, the total was 65.

As that plainly says, militants had launched 65 projectiles into Israel after the ceasefire began and before the Israeli operation that began on November 4th. Perhaps the saddest part about this is that Time is partners with CNN, yet CNN seems to have completely ignored or be oblivious to their article which proves that Palestinians broke the ceasefire.

And from a Guardian article on Israel’s early November operation just to further support this:

The official said Israel did not intend to break the truce, noting that some 60 mortar have been fired since the cease-fire and Israel has chosen not to respond.

In case you didn’t notice, Rick Sanchez references a different article from The Guardian in his newscast.  I guess he missed this one.

But there you have it…Israel did not break the ceasefire, and it was far too easy to prove so.  This is just the left-wing media’s newest attempt to undermine Israel as always.  Aren’t you glad you have such “competent” news sources as CNN around to keep you abreast of the “facts?”
